Viscoelastic bearings with fractional constitutive law for fractional tuned mass dampers

Abstract The paper aims at studying the effects of the inherent fractional constitutive law of viscoelastic bearings used as devices for tuned mass dampers. First, the proper constitutive law of the viscoelastic supports is determined by the local constitutive law. Then, the characteristic force–displacement relationship at the top of the bearing is found. Taking advantage of the whole bearing constitutive laws, the tuning of the mass damper is proposed by defining the damped fractional frequency, which is analogous to the classical damped frequency. The effectiveness of the optimal tuning procedure is validated by a numerical application on a system subjected to a Gaussian white noise.
Gain Scheduling H 2 / H ∞ Structural Control of a Floating Wind Turbine

Abstract For wind turbine load mitigation, this paper proposes an active structural control deign of a hybrid mass damper installed at the tower top of a spar-type floating wind turbine. System dynamic model is established based on first principles and the polynomial curve fitting approach, while different steady-state points are derived. Then, a gain scheduling H 2 / H ∞ state feedback controller is designed by solving linear matrix inequalities, which aims to reduce the loading. Mathematical modeling of vehicle frontal crash by a double spring-mass-damper model

This paper presents development of a mathematical model to represent the real vehicle frontal crash scenario. The vehicle is modeled by a double spring-mass-damper system. The front mass m1 represents the chassi of the vehicle and rear mass m2 represents the passenger compartment. The physical parameters of the model (Stiffness and dampers) are estimated using Nonlinear least square method (Levenberg-Marquart algorithm) by curve fitting the response of a double spring-mass-damper system to the experimental displacement data from the real vehicle crash. The model is validated by comparing the results from the model with the experimental results from real crash tests available.
